1. Grant of License

Open Design Labs grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the Open Design plugin ("Software") on the number of machines covered by your subscription.

2. Design Aid — Not a Replacement for Engineering Judgment

The Software is a design aid. It is not a substitute for the professional judgment, experience, and responsibility of a licensed engineer. All output — including device placement, equipment sizing, pipe and duct routing, code compliance checks, and documentation — must be independently reviewed, verified, and approved by the engineer of record before use in construction documents, permit applications, or any other official purpose.

3. Engineer of Record Clause

The engineer of record bears sole responsibility for all design decisions. Open Design Labs does not provide engineering services, does not stamp drawings, and does not warrant that any output meets the requirements of any specific building code, standard, or jurisdiction. The user acknowledges that:

  • Rule values encoded in the Software may be incorrect, incomplete, or out of date
  • Code editions and local amendments vary by jurisdiction
  • The Software's placement algorithms are approximations, not certified calculations
  • No automated tool can replace field verification and professional judgment

4. No Warranty of Code Compliance

The Software references building codes including NEC, NFPA, ASHRAE, IPC, and others. These references are provided as a convenience and do not constitute a guarantee of compliance. Open Design Labs makes no warranty, express or implied, that any output of the Software complies with any applicable code, standard, or regulation.

5. Limitation of Liability

IN NO EVENT SHALL OPEN DESIGN LABS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGE, OR LOSS ARISING FROM THE USE OF THE SOFTWARE, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO ERRORS IN DEVICE PLACEMENT, SIZING, ROUTING, OR CODE COMPLIANCE. THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. THE TOTAL LIABILITY OF OPEN DESIGN LABS SHALL NOT EXCEED THE FEES PAID BY YOU IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

6. Data and Privacy

The Software does not transmit your model data to any external server. See our Privacy Policy and Security page for details.

7. Termination

This license terminates automatically if you breach any of its terms. Upon termination, you must uninstall the Software. Your Revit models are unaffected by uninstallation.
